Plastic containers for saving leftovers are one of the great conveniences of the modern world — until you have fight with cleaning them.
Most of the people just wash their plastic containers into the dishwasher. This really easy and fast method of cleaning but most of the housewives have never be satisfied with how the plastic containers come out. They often noticed that the dishwashers do not get all the stains out. Also the worse thing they observe is that sometimes there is a funky odour left behind as well as deposits. These odours might be because of the extremely hot water that is used in the dishwashers. Or because of the dishwasher detergent. But no one can be sure on that. Some more, if the plastic containers overheat in the dishwasher, they can become deformed and won’t close properly. You can get rid of them when that happens.
Because of the fact that you use your plastic containers almost every day, they become stained. So, except the normal washing you have to take care of them by doing deep-cleaning to remove the stains. There are several things that you can try. Start with whichever is easiest for you and go from there.
You know that sun bleach the hair during the summer. The sun light also can be used to bleach the stains on your plastic containers. This method is simple, just leave the plastic containers out or somewhere inside next to the window for several hours. The stain may fade or disappear completely. Remember to wash it again after you bring it inside, and do not put it outside if it is going to rain.
If the first method does not working try to remove the stains from your plastic containers by bleach. Applying this method is easy. Just dilute bleach with water as in two parts water add one part bleach. Fill this solution into the plastic containers and leave them for about 30 minutes to soak. Then pour the solution and scrub the containers with sponge or kitchen brush, hot water and dish detergent. Then dry your container with a dish towel.
There are so many benefits of using oxygen for stains’ cleaning. To find out the effects of oxidizing, buy oxygenated cleaner from your local store. Then fill your plastic containers with hot water and dilute two cleansing tablets in the water. Leave the containers for few minutes depending on the directions on the label. Then wash as normal and dry the containers before you put them away.
In most of the times the plastic containers not only have stains but also stink. In these cases the best cleaning method is using baking soda. The cleaning with baking soda is easy. Just mix about a teaspoon of baking soda with a cup of water and scrub the container with the resulting solution using a kitchen brush or sponge. Then rinse the containers with hot water and dry them with dish towel.
How to avoid stains in the future?
To prevent your plastic containers from stains, use non stick cooking spray on containers and their lids before filling them with foods with tomato sauce or other kind of food which can leave stains on your plastic containers.
Do not use your plastic containers in a microwave before you to check whether they are microwave-safe. Because if they are not microwave-safe, the heating can degrade the plastic and the containers can become more likely to stain and retain odours.
Do not put the containers away if they are not dry.
